Latest news: Thank you to everyone who attended our first meeting at the Town Hall on 10 June. The mood was positive and, like us, many people wanted to see more details about how the Free School system will work, particularly in regards to funding, ongoing management and premises. The plans are still not public but we will post details here as soon as they are available, along with answers to other questions raised at the meeting.
A Free School for Swanage

Dorset County Council have refused to consult on a secondary school for Swanage, leaving our town as the only one in the county with no school for children aged over 11. Education Swanage have consistently
argued that not only are there enough children here, but that a school is vital for the social, environmental and economic well-being of Swanage now and into the future.
Education Swanage is a non-political group and has garnered support from all major parties for its cause. The new coalition Government is giving groups of parents, teachers and charities the opportunity to form ‘Free Schools’ where there is a strong case for one, and particularly where Local Authorities have ignored public demands for educational equality.
Swanage is regarded as having a strong case for a new school and members of Education Swanage are already
talking to educational experts about the creation of a school in our town run by and for the local community.
This is Swanage’s opportunity to create the vibrant and successful local school that our children are being denied.
